Adobe crosses $27.5B ARR, prints record $6.76B — but Q4 guide brackets consensus and ADBE dips
AI-first ARR grew more than 150% to over $650M and Creative freemium MAU crossed 100M, yet shares slipped as the Q4 revenue midpoint only bracketed the Street.
Adobe posted a record fiscal Q3 on September 10, with revenue of $6.76 billion (up 13%, or 12% in constant currency), non-GAAP EPS of $6.13 against a Street estimate of $6.08, and GAAP EPS of $4.62. Total ending ARR reached $27.50 billion, growing 11.2% year over year. The company also lifted its full-year revenue target to $26.576B–$26.626B and full-year non-GAAP EPS to $24.45–$24.50, with guided ARR growth of 10.2%.
Shares fell about 3% early Friday to $241.52 before recovering to roughly $248, essentially flat. ADBE is down 30% year to date against a 14.5% gain for the Nasdaq 100.
The tension is in the guide. Q4 revenue of $6.80B–$6.85B only brackets consensus, and the AI numbers underneath the headline are moving fast enough that “in line” is now the bear case. AI-first ending ARR grew more than 150% year over year to over $650 million. Firefly ending ARR rose 40% sequentially. Creative freemium MAU crossed 100 million, up more than 70%. Acrobat AI Assistant MAU doubled sequentially, and total MAU across Business Professionals & Consumers surpassed 900 million, growing more than 25%.
That’s the strategic pivot legible under the numbers: Adobe is pricing generative creative work as a commodity input, distributed through freemium and through ChatGPT, Chrome, Edge, and WhatsApp integrations, then monetizing at the enterprise tier via Creative Cloud, where subscription revenue of $4.65 billion grew 12% in constant currency. Business Professionals & Consumers subscription revenue hit $1.91 billion, up 15%. RPO stands at $22.16 billion, up 8%.
Analysts split the difference. Jefferies’ Brent Thill cut his target to $275 from $285. Citi’s Tyler Radke went to $250 from $301. Wells Fargo raised to $270 from $250.
Interim CFO Steve Day delivered the print. Anil Chakravarthy takes over as CEO on December 1, succeeding Shantanu Narayen after 29 years. The transition arrives with over 1 million Topaz Labs users folded in and more than 400 billion PDFs opened per year through Acrobat, an installed base being repriced in real time, while the market waits to see whether the freemium funnel converts fast enough to matter.
