Anthropic opens Claude Marketplace to startups, bundles $45K partner stack ahead of IPO

Expanded Claude Startups program adds hands-on Marketplace listing help, a free year of Claude Team, and $1,000 in API credits — a founder-grade distribution play as Anthropic preps its IPO.

Anthropic expanded its Claude Startups program on Tuesday at an SF Tech Week event, bundling a free year of Claude Team (up to five Premium seats), a $1,000 one-time API credit, and up to $45,000 in third-party discounts into what it’s calling the Claude Startup Stack. The sharper detail, buried under the credit math, is distribution: approved members get hands-on help building a Claude Marketplace listing and submitting it for review.

That’s the part worth watching. The credits are a subsidy. The Marketplace is a channel.

Eligibility runs to companies founded in the last five years or funded in the last two, and venture-backed founders in Anthropic’s partner network can access up to $100,000 in additional API credits through their investors. The headline $1,000 credit comes with teeth: it expires six months after issuance, and per Unite.AI it’s restricted to the first-party Claude API via Claude Console, not AWS Bedrock or Google Cloud Vertex AI. Anthropic wants these startups building directly on its surface, not routing through a hyperscaler’s billing relationship.

The partner stack reads like a founder’s GTM shopping list. Unite.AI itemized 20% off Attention’s first year, 12 months of ElevenLabs free plus 33 million characters, 25% off Gamma Pro annual, three months of Granola Business free for up to 10 seats, and $5,000 in ClickHouse Cloud credits. Inc. counted up to 18 tools in the current stack, naming Attention, ElevenLabs, Granola, and Lovable among them.

“startups are often the first to push Claude to its limits,” said Beth Robertson, Anthropic’s head of startups. The quote reads as developer-relations warmth; the mechanics read as pre-IPO lock-in. CNBC notes Anthropic’s business revenue dominates its mix and that the company is widely expected to pursue an IPO. Programs like this are how a distribution network gets built before the S-1 lands.

The parallel is OpenAI’s move three weeks ago to put a branded AI agent inside every ChatGPT ad and wire the buy button. Both companies are quietly turning their assistants into commercial surfaces, and both are deciding now who gets shelf space when the surface matures. Founders writing the eligibility email this week aren’t just chasing credits. They’re applying for inventory.

Anthropic hasn’t disclosed Marketplace traffic, conversion mechanics, or listing-approval rates. The shelf exists; nobody outside the building knows yet what it’s worth.
