Microsoft matches Jev's price on day one of TypeSafe's $7.5B round
Microsoft-Decision-1 ships at $0.042 per million input tokens — the same price as Jev — the same day Andreessen Horowitz leads an $870M Series A.
On October 9, Microsoft shipped Microsoft-Decision-1 into Foundry at $0.042 per million input tokens with output tokens free, matching Jev’s price to the cent on the same day Andreessen Horowitz led an $870 million Series A valuing Jev’s maker, TypeSafe, at $7.5 billion. Sequoia and DCVC participated, per TechCrunch. The category Jev defined when it launched on September 15 arrived at commodity pricing roughly three and a half weeks later.
That’s the whole story, in one sentence: a hyperscaler met a venture-backed category-definer at identical pricing before the round had finished clearing.
The technical posture reinforces the point. VP of software engineering Achint Srivastava’s launch note says Microsoft-Decision-1 is built on Alibaba’s open-weight Qwen3.5-9B, with a future rebase onto Microsoft’s own MAI models. The Register notes that leaning on a Chinese open-weight base to undercut a Western startup is itself a tell about where margin now lives in classification. Microsoft claims top accuracy across 36 blind benchmarks, 2.5x faster than runner-up H2O-Lightning-4B v1.1 and 35x faster than GPT-6 Sol. More than 100 decision models are now live, with beta APIs at OpenAI, Cloudflare, Perplexity, Snowflake, and Liquid AI.
TypeSafe is roughly 20 people. One third of the Fortune 500 already uses Jev. Co-founder Diogo Almeida, formerly an OpenAI researcher, told TechCrunch last month: “We have been super good at human language for four years, but it’s not useful for automation because computers speak a different language.” He created the category and immediately drew the price-matching response.
Decision models are the quiet layer underneath lead scoring, spam filtering, content routing, and outreach prioritization. The read is the same one visible in Anthropic’s 90% Haiku 5.5 cut and the OpenAI revenue reset the same week: the classification layer is becoming infrastructure. The margin moves upstream to the prospect list and downstream to the content. Jev got a $7.5 billion valuation for inventing a category whose price floor Microsoft set the day the wire cleared.
