META +11% as Muse tops App Store, splitting e-commerce into agent-ready and agent-blocked
Meta's Muse hit 2.8M downloads in 12 days and Shop Pay integration is coming — a discovery channel that bypasses the ad auction for founders whose listings agents can actually read.
META closed Monday at $741.25, up 11.3%, adding roughly $192 billion in market cap and more than $13 billion to Mark Zuckerberg’s net worth on the strength of a single App Store chart. Muse, Meta’s personal AI agent, pulled 2.8 million downloads across the US and Canada in its first 12 days, per Sensor Tower data cited by Yahoo Finance. ChatGPT did 1.3 million in the comparable window. On Sept. 19, Muse logged 264,000 US downloads in a day, its third straight above 200,000.
“Meta has a hit on its hands with Muse,” Evercore ISI analyst Mark Mahaney wrote, sketching “multi-trillion dollar total addressable markets” across advertising, subscription, and a transaction cut.
That transaction cut is the story. Muse is the first AI agent covered by Link by Stripe’s purchase protections, and Meta’s newsroom says Shopify’s Shop Pay is “coming soon as another way to pay.” TechCrunch reports 1Password support and public APIs on the same roadmap. Meta AI chief Alexandr Wang told CNBC the company is exploring “taking a cut of AI agent-related shopping transactions” because “the commerce business model is potentially really interesting for this product.” On July’s earnings call, Zuckerberg framed the play as structural: “new personal agents…will be the foundation for our next wave of products and revenue lines in the months and years ahead.”
The implication for founders is sharper than the stock move. An agent that reads listings, compares prices, and checks out through Shop Pay is a discovery channel that bypasses Meta’s own ad auction. Consumers are already migrating discovery away from search toward social; agent-mediated buying is the next layer down. Once Shop Pay support ships, founders with clean product data and a Shopify checkout stand to be legible to Muse’s early delegators; those without won’t be.
Two tiers ($20/month Power, $100/month Maximum, plus a free tier) monetize the user side while Sentinel, described by Axios, handles approvals. The trust deficit is real: TechCrunch notes Meta’s $18 billion multistate settlement, the $5 billion 2019 FTC penalty, and a 2023 FTC charge over a violated privacy order. The coming weeks will test whether that history slows adoption, or whether the App Store already answered.
