GPT-6 Intelligent UI reaches 1.2B ChatGPT users, turning answers into interactive buyer surfaces

OpenAI began rolling GPT-6 and Intelligent UI to paid tiers on Oct. 7 and Free/Go on Oct. 8, rendering comparison tables, tappable buttons, and inline calculators inside replies.

OpenAI began rolling GPT-6 and a new Intelligent UI layer to paid ChatGPT tiers on Oct. 7, extending both to Free and Go users on Oct. 8 and bringing interactive answer surfaces to more than 1.2 billion weekly users. The chat reply is no longer just text. It’s a tappable interface the model composes on demand.

Intelligent UI renders buttons, forms, comparison tables, charts, diagrams, and calculators inline, choosing the format based on the question. TechCrunch’s Lucas Ropek saw demos including recipe visuals, hike maps, bicycle-mechanics diagrams, and a personal savings calculator. Engadget’s Mariella Moon reported that the model can begin answering while it continues to reason, streaming components as they generate, which collapses the gap between question and usable object.

“ChatGPT has predominantly been a text-based interface,” OpenAI product manager Aarush Selvan told TechCrunch, framing the shift as a move toward helping users “get things done — from everyday things like planning a recipe or a trip or even trying to learn something.”

The tier mechanics matter. GPT-6 Sol powers Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise; GPT-6 Luna runs Free and Go. The Pro reasoning option still routes through GPT-6 Astra, which doesn’t support Intelligent UI, per OpenAI’s release notes. Enterprise availability depends on workspace admin settings.

The strategic read is that ChatGPT has quietly become a conversion surface. Ask it to compare plumbers or pick a bookkeeping service and it can now render a side-by-side table with tappable CTAs. That’s distribution, not novelty. It compounds OpenAI’s September move to place branded agents and a buy button inside ChatGPT ads and the DevDay rollout of managed agents and the always-on “o” assistant. A buy button, an agent, and now an interactive comparison grid sit in the same reply.

For small businesses, the implication is unsentimental: legibility to the model, site copy, pricing, reviews, structured data, determines whether you appear in a comparison UI a billion people can tap. The answer layer has become a shelf, and the shelving decisions are being made right now.
