Salesforce UCP Checkout Reaches GA on Google AI Mode in October

Commerce Cloud merchants can enable native buying inside Gemini and AI Mode this month while keeping payments and order management on their own infrastructure.

Salesforce’s integration with Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol reaches general availability this month, letting Commerce Cloud merchants place a native checkout button inside Google Search, AI Mode, and the Gemini app without surrendering their payment stack or order-management backend. The Dreamforce 2026 announcement on September 15 confirmed the October timing, and the companion statement from Salesforce was unambiguous about the surface area: “Starting this Fall, shoppers can seamlessly discover and purchase products directly within Google Search, including AI Mode, and the Gemini app, powered by Commerce Cloud.”

Two mechanisms are now in play, and the distinction matters. The catalog-feed path, already GA, pushes a snapshot of merchant inventory into Google Merchant Center. The protocol path, going live this month, serves live agent calls against the merchant’s own backend. UCP Checker’s September 17 analysis framed the practical consequence: one keeps you discoverable, the other keeps you buyable inside the agent itself.

Eligibility is tight. GA requires B2C Commerce 26.9 or later, en-US sites only, and Salesforce Payments running on Adyen or Stripe with Google Pay enabled (or a qualified third-party payments implementation). Merchants also have to join Google’s UCP waitlist, configure Merchant Center feeds with the native_commerce attribute, and pass end-to-end testing. The merchant stays Merchant of Record throughout, which is the point Nitin Mangtani, SVP and GM of Agentforce Commerce and Retail at Salesforce, used to frame his January 14 announcement: the goal is to “expand their reach while ensuring they keep full operational control.”

As of mid-September, UCP Checker’s daily recrawl of roughly 21,400 storefronts found zero verified Commerce Cloud sites publishing a valid UCP manifest. The firm called that “the expected number” for a protocol a month pre-GA. SharkNinja is the only joint customer Salesforce has named so far.

The strategic read is familiar from every previous channel transition. The eligibility funnel is narrow by design, early movers accumulate ranking and feed-quality advantages inside the agent surface, and merchants outside the funnel remain visible via feed while being invisible at the transaction layer, which is where AI-surface commerce is reshaping customer acquisition. Watch, too, how platform-level agent access shifts elsewhere: the enterprise checkout layer is being rewritten in parallel across every major surface, and the merchants who treat October as a feed-hygiene exercise rather than a channel launch will discover the difference during Q4.
